Parent Volunteer Info

We need YOU! Parent volunteers are essential to every swim meet (home or away). We are required by the league to have a certain number of volunteers for each position.

Parent Volunteer Policy:

Junior Piranha Parents - required to volunteer for at least TWO swim meets (this includes home and away meets)

Piranha Parents - required to volunteer for at least FOUR swim meets (this includes home and away meets).

Sign up under Meets & Events - Sign up Calendar - Job Sign up.  We recommend signing up for your volunteer spots early.  Keep in mind - without your help, our swim meets can not run.  Swimming is heavily dependant on the help from our parent volunteers.

Volunteer Descriptions:

Timer: The timers check to be sure the Dolphin timer begins when the announcer starts the race, and is responsible for stopping the timer as the swimmer touches the wall at the conclusion of the race. If there is a timer malfunction, the timer must raise a hand to notify the meet official and/or starter immediately.  All timers should be present for the timer meeting hosted pre-meet at 5:40 pm

Computer Operator:  Sits on the pool deck by the Starter.  Monitors the times being fed from the Dolphin timers; notes/resolves issues with the Meet Official, and updates the system for any disqualifications.  There are always two computer people.  Training is required for this role, especially the Lead Computer Operator.

Heat Ribbon Distributor:  Watches each race to determine who touches the wall first, then gives that swimmer a heat ribbon (12 & under individual events only).

Clerk of CourseThey are the key to keeping a meet on schedule. Responsible for lining up the swimmers by event, heat and lane and getting them to the starting blocks in the correct order and on time. This job gives you the chance to see your swimmer immediately before his/her event. This position is not recommended for parents new to swim team.

Stroke and Turn Judge: Will be assigned a section of the pool by the Meet Referee. Judges only rule on infractions on their side of the pool. They observe strokes, turns, and finishes to see that swimmers comply with the requirements for that stroke. Training is required for this position (an online training course is required prior to the first meet of the season).  All Stroke & Turn Judges should be present for a meeting with the Meet Official at 5:40 pm.

Announcer/Starter: Starts each event with the announcement of the age and stroke and the words "SWIMMERS TAKE YOUR MARK", pauses to make sure that all swimmers are motionless, and then gives an electronic sound.  He/She makes the meets run smoothly. This individual must be trained for this position.

Relief Volunteer:  In the event of a no-show or otherwise vacant role, the person in this role may be asked to step into any open volunteer spot (except those that require training).
